Unter Computational Biology versteht man die Anwendung von Informatik, Statistik und Mathematik auf Probleme in der Biologie. Die Computerbiologie umfasst ein breites Spektrum an Bereichen der Biologie, darunter Genomik/Genetik, Biophysik, Zellbiologie, Biochemie und Evolution. Ebenso werden Werkzeuge und Techniken aus vielen verschiedenen quantitativen Bereichen genutzt, darunter Algorithmendesign, maschinelles Lernen, Bayesian- und Frequent-Statistik sowie statistische Physik.
